Security in Christ - John 11:47-52

00:14 He as a Grandaddy. When I'm with my grandkids, a little grandkids every night I tell them hero stories. Tonight, I'm going to talk to you about heroes and we're talking from a John Chapter 11 verse 47 through 52 and it says this "Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. 'What are we accomplishing?' they ask. Here is this man performing many miraculous signs. Of course they're talking about Jesus. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. Then one of them named Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, stood up and said this, "you know nothing at all. You did not realize this better for you. That one man die for the people than the whole nation perish." He did not say this on his own, but as high priest, he was actually prophesying that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation and not only for that nation but also for the scattered ones of God to bring them together and to make them one. Pretty awesome passage.

I remember a few years ago are grateful mom came to me and told me about her daughter, uh, who was running for junior class president. Oh, there's a girl named Janice and she was well liked in her public high school and she prepared an excellent campaign, but at the completion of her make it or break it, 20 minute campaign speech in front of the entire student body, the panel of judges ask her the leading question, who's your hero? Who's your superhero? Who's your superman? You know, Janice knowing that her truthful response will alienate her and split the students and, and, and probably lose precious votes. She responded in a heartbeat. My hero is Jesus Christ.

02:09 Undoubtedly he died for my sins. I have a friend who passed up $100,000 plus real estate deal because it was unethical. I have a doctor friend, um, who had passes up, literally, he's an OBGYN. He passes up tens of thousands of dollars a year because he won't do abortions. Um, recently remember a story about a close seventh grade friend named Jill who told me how tough junior high social life was. She was amazed when she went to her first junior high party. That a boy brought some things to the party that were way against her morals. Almost everyone told him how cool it was, but Jill knew it was wrong, you know, risking her popularity and being called a freak. She called her mom to come get her. College friend, you know, a great college of mine recently. You, you know, they're at a beach party trip and they're going to leave.

03:02 And she stayed. She stayed in her hotel room the whole week because she wouldn't get to go out there on the beach and do what they were doing. Boy the questions are this, today you guys, what security where the Jewish leaders in the scripture passage were they afraid of losing when Jesus was in town? And then how did Jesus shake their security? And in here it takes it home with this question, how does being a Christian put your temporary security at risk? And then, uh, try this one on this last question. What would cause you to have your Christianity? And the life line for today is this in the home, in your mood, in your relationship with your mom and dad, or with your kids encourage each other build our security in Christ.
